Non-PDC Training: Multidisciplinary Child Protection Training
Registration is live for the 2019 Safely Together: Tools to Achieve Safe and Speedier Permanency
The Administrative Office of the Idaho Supreme Court and the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare are co-hosting a regional training on using safety planning, concurrent planning and case planning to safely return a child home at the earliest opportunity in the case.
This training is 1 and 1/2 days long. The trainings will be offered at no cost in the comfort of your very own district/region!
Each county is asked to send a team consisting of the judge, prosecutor, public defender, deputy attorney general, attorney for the child, IDHW staff, GAL staff, volunteers and attorney.
You do not want to miss this important conference! Travel, lodging and perform for judges will be provided. Travel and/or lodging is available for others within the state. To request travel assistance and/or lodging please choose the appropriate add-on item during registration.

2019 IACDL Sun Valley Conference Registration Closed
The Idaho State Public Defense Commission in partnership with IACDL is pleased to invite you to the 2019 IACDL Sun Valley Conference
Friday and Saturday, April 12-13, 2019, at the Sun Valley Inn.
To register, please return the completed Registration Form and submit it to the PDC at info@pdc.idaho.gov.
The Public Defense Commission is excited to offer all institutional and contract public defenders across the state an opportunity to attend the IACDL Sun Valley Conference at a reduced cost. The PDC will cover the cost of registration and two nights lodging at the Sun Valley Inn for all public defenders that are interested in attending. The two-day conference will offer an approach to trial work that takes a proactive posture towards presenting a defense and going to trial. IACDL has arranged for a number of wonderful presenters from around the country to share their wisdom and years of experience, including:
Tamara Brady, who has represented some of the most high-profile defendants in Colorado, including James Holmes, the Aurora Theater shooter,
Jason Ser, a federal public defender from the Eastern and Southern District of New York,
Brett Willis, a trial attorney from Georgia who also serves on the faculty of the National Criminal Defense College,
Keith Belzer, a seasoned attorney in private practice in Wisconsin, a few years ago NACDL named him one of their top speakers,
and Andre Vitale, who is the training director for the Rochester, NY public defender office and serves on the faculties of Gideon’s Promise and the Bronx Defenders Trial Academy.
There will also be presentations from our own:
Mike Palmer, an attorney in private practice from Coeur d’Alene,
Scott McKay, an attorney in private practice from Boise,
Maya Waldron and Jenny Swinford, from the State Appellate Public Defenders’ Office, who will give us a case update,
and a 2019 Legislative Update presented by Paul Riggins and Andrew Masser.
The Public Defense Commission will provide the cost of registration for the conference and two nights lodging at the Sun Valley Inn. A modest travel stipend will also be available for those driving/flying a distance of 200 miles or more one way. If there are any small groups interested in sharing a condo please contact me so that I can obtain the necessary information to check on availability. Additional travel and lodging information will be provided upon receipt of registration.
Friday night, IACDL will be hosting their annual Banquet. In addition to great food, conversation, and the IACDL yearly Awards Presentation, they will have a keynote address from Andre Vitale, entitled “The Successful Transformation from a Criminal Litigation Attorney to a Client Centered Advocate.” This year, IACDL will also be holding a silent auction and fundraiser that evening, with the proceeds going towards our lobbying and criminal justice reform efforts.

The PDC has received a tremendous amount of response on the Sun Valley Conference, so great in fact that all of our slots have been filled and we have closed registration.
To all who submitted registration forms, thank you. For those who did not submit a registration form but would still like to attend, you may register with IACDL directly their website. Unfortunately the PDC will not be able to cover any portion of your expenses to attend the conference.
