Montroy Series: Beck v. Elmore County Magistrate Court

Join Pete Wood as he discusses his recent case Beck v. Elmore County and what the Idaho Supreme Court decision means, and doesn’t mean, for the collection of fines and fees. Pete will provide an overview of the case, his arguments, and implications for what a court can and cannot do when an indigent defendant fails to pay court debt.  Pete also intends to discuss possible strategies for combating the root of the problem: the court’s imposing excessive fines on indigent defendants to begin with.  Find out what his case could mean for your clients!

Pete Wood was the (Elmore County) Public Defender who argued Beck v. Elmore County Magistrate Court.  Prior to his work in Elmore County Pete was a public defender in Montana for 2.5 years.
